The carpet for the refurbished library at Alnwick Castle

The new carpet woven for the refurbished library at Alnwick Castle for their Graces the Duke and Duchess of Northumberland.

Probably the largest hand knotted carpet woven in Europe for 50-60 years

The carpet has been made by 6-8 weavers working in David’s workshop in Bulgaria. It measures 14.5m long by 4.75m wide, 68.87 sq/m total of 6,198,300 knots which has taken more than 12 months to weave.

The carpet in our workshop in Bulgaria in April 2024

We redrew the C17th French design and recoloured an early C19th Axminster or Wilton carpet.

The suite of carpets for the Anti-Library & Library will be fitted by Sept/Oct this year and will open to the public early next year.

The weavers, after finishing the weaving of the carpet then have 2 weeks sitting on it with trimming scissors to cut the pile to finish.
